Set-up and Co-ordination of Procurement in China for Steinel Group
With more than 1,400 employees Steinel group is the European market leader in sensor-controlled lighting. True to its principle ‘Made in Europe’ Steinel is operating 6 own plants in Germany (2), Switzerland, Romania, Czech Republic and Moldavia. As quite common in the European lighting industry, Steinel is purchasing various components from the Chinese market.
Since early 2017 FE has been in charge of Steinel’s procurement in China. Based on product groups defined by Steinel, FE has searched for suitable Chinese suppliers. Main products are mechanical components, such as metal stamping and die-casting parts, various plastic and aluminium extrusion parts as well as several electric and lamp components.
During the selection as well as the subsequent qualification process of suppliers, FE has been actively supported by the purchasing and quality managers of Steinel group. Due to the rapidly growing business FE has enlarged its team and employed further quality controllers in China, who have been trained intensively by the quality managers of Steinel group. In addition FE’s responsible head of purchasing is regularly visiting the plants of Steinel group in Europe.
